Normal structure of a paper(academic)

  1. Title
  2. Abstract
  3. Instruct
  4. Method
  5. Experiment
  6. Conclusion

Skim Read

The first pass is to quickly skim through the paper to get a general idea of its content. Start by reading the title, abstract, introduction, section headings, and conclusion. Then, read the first and last sentence of each paragraph to get an overview of the main points. Pay attention to any figures or tables, as they can help you understand the content better. This pass should take about 5-10 minutes.

Detailed Read

The second pass is to read the paper more carefully and in-depth. Start by reading the introduction to understand the background and purpose of the study. Then, read each section carefully, making notes and highlighting important points. Try to understand the methods used, the results obtained, and the conclusions drawn. This pass may take anywhere from 30 minutes to a few hours, depending on the length and complexity of the paper.

Especially make sure you know the mean of illustrations but without 100% confirm.

Critical Read

The final pass is to critically evaluate the paper. Ask yourself questions like:

  • Are the methods used appropriate?
  • Are the results significant?
  • Are the conclusions supported by the data?
  • Are there any flaws or limitations in the study?
  • etc.

Take notes and write down any questions or concerns you may have. This pass may taken an hour ot more, depending on how critical you want to be.

Overall, it’s important to take your time and read the paper thoroughly to ensure your understand its content and can evaluate it properly.
